How it works.

01 · The Scale

A conventional cream is built from droplets around 2,000 nanometres wide. Ours measure about 80 nanometres, roughly 1/25th the width, small enough to go where cream cannot.

02 · The Carrier

High-pressure emulsification folds hydrogenated lecithin, a phospholipid, into a vesicle around ferment, niacinamide and squalane. The shell is the same class of lipid that builds your cell membranes.

03 · The Passage

Skin recognizes the vesicle and lets it pass through the lipid pathways between cells. Larger droplets cannot fit, so they stay on the surface as a film.

04 · The Finish

Once through, the vesicle releases its actives and its lipids settle into the barrier. What remains is hydrated, supple skin with nothing on top.

Formulation

Key ingredients.

Four ferments on one label: rice fermented with yeasts selected from over 100 varieties, sake ferment filtrate, a wasabi root ferment and Lactobacillus ferment. Together they supply amino acids and organic acids that smooth texture, brighten the surface and support the barrier.

Vitamin B3, carried inside every vesicle. It calms visible redness, refines the look of pores and helps skin build the lipids its own barrier is made of, so hydration stays put between applications.

A plant-derived lipid that closely mirrors the squalene in your own sebum, so skin takes it in without a trace of heaviness. It seals hydration in place and leaves the surface soft, not slick.

The phospholipid that forms the wall of each vesicle, 80 nanometres across. Under high pressure it wraps the ferment, niacinamide and squalane, carries them through the lipid pathways between cells and releases them once inside.

A plant stem cell culture cultivated in Hokkaido, rich in polyphenols, the antioxidants plants make to defend themselves. In the emulsion they give skin antioxidant support against the everyday oxidative stress that dulls it.

Dipotassium glycyrrhizate is a licorice-derived soother that helps keep skin calm while the actives settle in. Tocopherol is vitamin E, an antioxidant that helps protect the formula's lipids, and your own, from oxidizing.

Does it replace my serum and moisturizer?

Yes. It is labelled essence, serum and moisturizer because it does the work of all three: the vesicles carry the ferment and niacinamide a serum would, and squalane seals hydration in the way a cream would, in one layer that absorbs in seconds. After cleansing, it is designed to be the only step.

What does 80 nanometres actually mean?

It is the width of each droplet. A conventional cream droplet measures around 2,000 nanometres, so ours is roughly 1/25th the width. At that scale the droplet fits through the lipid pathways between skin cells instead of resting on top of them, which is why it absorbs in seconds and leaves no film.

Will it feel greasy on oily skin?

No. It absorbs within seconds and leaves no film or shine, and there is no mineral oil or silicone to sit on the surface. Squalane mirrors the squalene in your own sebum, so skin takes it in as hydration rather than as an extra layer of oil.

Where does it fit in a routine?

Morning and night, straight after the Kaizen Seven Enzyme Foam Face Wash. Smooth 1 to 2 pumps over clean, slightly damp face and neck until absorbed. The wash's enzyme clears dead keratin from the surface first, so nothing stands between the vesicles and your skin.

How long does a bottle last?

About two months. That is based on the 80 g bottle used at 1 to 2 pumps morning and night, so heavier or lighter use will shift it. Because it replaces essence, serum and moisturizer, one bottle covers the whole step after cleansing.

Is it fragranced?

Yes. The scent is woody and green: Atlas cedarwood, eucalyptus and geranium essential oils, with added fragrance. There is no drying alcohol in the formula. If your skin reacts to fragrance or essential oils, patch test along the jawline first.
